Mòran taing do na pàtranaich againn!
This page is dedicated to those individuals, organizations and groups that help support us in bringing our Gaelic language and culture to both, our local community, and further afield. This support has been shown through funding, donations, sharing and promoting our events, contributions for our Quiz Nights and other fund raising events that help us achieve our goals.
We would particularly like to thank Kirsten Easdale, a local resident and traditional singer, producer, and events organiser who worked in collaboration with Àdhamh Ó Broin, the Gaelic Culture Officer from the Culture, Heritage and Arts Assembly (CHARTS) who delivered our first Gaelic language event in 2023. They effectively started this journey.
More recently, Màiri NicGillfhinnein, Gaelic Development Worker and David Hagerty Community Development Officer from Argyll and Bute Council have both been instrumental in guiding us in how we present our organisation and group activities in a more structured manner which has given us a clearer direction and more focus.
We are also delighted that Màiri NicGillfhinnein was able to source a Gaelic language tutor who brings a wealth of experience at teaching in the type friendly and inclusive forum that we are seeking to create.
Alasdair MacCuish is our new Gaelic Language Tutor.
We thank you all for your support.
Tapadh leibh!
The organisations shown here have provided support to our group directly and indirectly through, for example, the SpeakGaelic teaching material that we use as well as resources and financial support that helped us run our first short 6-week Gaelic Language class as well as the new regular programme that we are now putting in place.
Arrochar Gaelic Language & Cultural Society (AGLCS) is delighted to announce that Joy Dunlop is our organisation's Patron.
Joy is a passionate ambassador of Gaelic language and culture.
As well as being a popular television and radio presenter, podcaster, journalist, singer, dancer, event host and educator working with BBC Scotland and BBC Alba - she is the main host of SpeakGaelic, which our Gaelic Language classroom material is based on. She is also involved in a number of national and international projects aimed at promoting Gaelic language and culture, including being the Director of Seachdain na Gàidhlig. She has won many accolades and awards and is always in demand. Joy is also a local lass, hailing from the village of Connel in Argyll, Scotland. She has been steeped in the musical traditions of Argyll since childhood and is incredibly proud of her roots; maintaining a strong connection with her community.
Joy said,
“It’s great to see the work that is being done in Arrocher to strengthen and promote the use of Gaelic and I am excited to see how this develops in the future. I am delighted to be the AGLCS Patron, gur math a thèid leibh! "
We are absolutely honoured that Joy has agreed to be our Patron.
