AGLCS - Gaelic Culture in the Community Project
Our community group, Arrochar Gaelic Language and Cultural Society (AGLCS) was successful in securing a small funding grant from Argyll and Bute Council’s Supporting Communities Fund to help us run regular Scottish Gaelic classes at the Three Halls Village in Arrochar. We are absolutely delighted with this outcome as this will be used to support those on a lower income as well as ensure we can book a meeting room facility to host these classes.
We are now looking at a larger funding project for our community. Have a look at our YouTube videos.
The key activities we are looking at are is the creation and development of a local Fèis, local Shinty Team, a Mòd Choir and an Annual Music Festival using the Three Villages Hall, other community buildings such as churches, school, hotels and local bars.
Why not get involved..... its your community!

Application made to Supporting Communities Fund
Our community group, Arrochar Gaelic Language and Cultural Society (AGLCS) applied for funding on 26th May 2025 to help us run regular Scottish Gaelic classes from September 2025. Our aim is to help promote the use of our Gaelic language more often, by the people in our community and in a wider range of situations in the surrounding area. We seek to support those new to the language as well as fluent speakers. We will also introduce other cultural events including workshops and music events.
The decision on whether we receive funding or not will be known by September 2025. Details of the funding programme are available on the link below:

Gaelic Place Names of Arrochar Parish
This excellent publication compiled and written by Elizabeth Carmichael, Irene Wotherspoon, Libby King and Ann Bray provides an invaluable insight into the history and geography of our region. It introduces Gaelic place names in and around Arrochar as used on the Ordnance Survey 1:25,000 Explorer Series (sheet 364).
Understanding what a name means can provide us with a whole new perspective of how the people and the land were connected as well as a richer appreciation of our culture, our language and who we are.
