Our Goals
Our aim is to help strengthen and promote the use of Gaelic language in our community and further afield so that our Gaelic language is used more often in a wider range of situations and is clearly recognized as an integral part of Scottish life and culture. Through our activities, the events we run, together with the teaching and workshop programmes we are putting in place, we want to support the Bòrd na Gàidhlig and the National Gaelic Language Plan of Scotland to help us grow and maintain our Gaelic language, culture and heritage.
About Us
Arrochar Gaelic Language & Cultural Society
Between the end of May 2023 and the middle of July 2023, Culture, Heritage and Arts Assembly (CHARTS) supported a new 6-week-long Gaelic class in Arrochar which was taught by their Gaelic Culture Officer, Àdhamh Ó Broin.
This local community event was arranged by Kirsten Easdale, a traditional singer, music producer, event organiser, and local resident of Arrochar.
When the 6-week course came to an end, several of the class attendees suggested forming a support group and committee to source funding and continue with the training programme and, so the Arrochar Gaelic Language & Cultural Society (AGLCS) was formed.
Our First Funding Event
We were delighted with our first fund raising event which was held at the Three Villages Hall in Arrochar on the 15 September 2023. This was well attended.
£331.00 was raised and will be used towards a new regular programme of Gaelic Language classes which we aim to run on a continuous basis each year.
Because of a number personal issues arising for some of our group members, we got off to a slower start than expected in reigniting our language classes but, we are back on track.
